CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Manager of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence will be responsible for creating our data strategy, and lead a small team of passionate data analysts, scientists and engineers, in the R&D and implementation of data-driven solutions employing advanced data analytics, machine learning, natural language processing, and other AI techniques to create innovative applications and tools for our business, and help our business make optimal decisions.

To be successful, the Manager must also have a passion for understanding our business from “soups to nuts” and will closely collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to identify opportunities, define requirements, oversee projects, and ensure alignment with the strategic goals and mission of our business.

Candidates must have experience in advanced analytic data modeling systems, designing and launching innovative and complex analytic models using both contemporary and traditional data mining techniques applied to structured and unstructured data sets, as well as developing and utilizing algorithms and statistical predictive models to evaluate scenarios and potential future outcomes. 

The ideal candidate will be a highly technical and result-oriented leader experienced in determining goals and matching those with customer requirements and product roadmaps.  He or she will be adept at leading positive change, empowering people, cultivating product technology visions and innovative solutions, and fostering effective teams.

This is a "player/manager" role where the candidate is expected not only to manage and lead the team but also to be hands-on and contribute to task execution as needed. The ideal candidate should be comfortable rolling up their sleeves to help deliver results, while balancing leadership responsibilities.

SALARY RANGE
The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $170,000 annually.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field with a focus on machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science.  
  • An MBA, Master’s or Ph.D. is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Stay on top of our business (product, brand, customers, business processes, etc.) operations, goals and mission thoroughly, so as to be able to make the best decision.
  • Lead and drive the data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) strategy to optimize operational efficiency and improve decision-making for our business.
  • Develop quarterly goals for the department and drive those initiatives to completion. 
  • Build a world class team focused on execution and results.
  • Manage, and mentor a team of 5+ data scientists, analysts, engineers to deliver data solutions, actionable insights and predictive models.
  • Collaborate closely with IT and software development teams throughout the planning, building, and deployment process.
  • Work with IT to implement cost-effective measures for data retention and infrastructure.
  • Provide sign-off on change tickets after thorough review.
  • Participate in architecture review board meetings, providing technical feedback.
  • Lead collaboration with product, marketing and support teams to deliver insights for  decision-making for key initiatives.
  • Oversee the management and governance of data assets and AI models
  • In addition to providing leadership to the team, the Manager will also be expected to step in to do the work of his / her direct reports when necessary, including but is not limited to the following:
  • Write advanced SQL statements and manage ETL pipelines for feeding multi-million row data lake(s) 
    • Design, architect, and refactor new and existing schemas.
    • Test, optimize, troubleshoot, and fine-tune database queries for maximum efficiency.
    • Maintain the Looker environment and dashboards.
    • Create and maintain data dictionaries and data standards for internal use and self-service reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

  • At least 5 years of experience leading and managing data and analytics teams with at least 3 years managing data science and AI projects or teams
  • Experience attracting and retaining strong diverse technical talent in this high-demand technology competency.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing data teams.
  • Proven track record in delivering on large-scale data projects.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with database management and optimization.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and data analytics libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
  • Strong proficiency and knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Extensive experience with data modeling, both structured and unstructured data sets.
  • Experience with ETL processes and managing data pipelines.
  • Experience working with one of the leading public clouds (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
  • Experience with Machine Learning development and AI/LLM integrations.
  • Strong understanding of data governance and data management best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement data strategies that drive business results.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment where personal contribution can immediately translate into real business impact.
  • As this is a remote position working closely with an international team, the candidate must be flexible with work schedules.
